Matthew 2:1
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."
Interpretation
Jesus teaches a epiphany star that is worked out in limits and longings in Matthew 2:1—look for "born" and "king". Align epiphany star in the use of resources—season power with mercy.
Context
Matthew speaks here as gospel narrative writing, developing epiphany star. Read in Matthew 2, its force becomes clearer. Listen for “born” alongside “king”.
Manuscripts & Textual Witnesses
The Greek text is preserved in thousands of manuscripts. Early papyri (P46, P66, P75) from the 2nd-3rd centuries, along with major uncials like Sinaiticus and Vaticanus (4th century), provide strong textual witness. Minor variants exist but do not affect the core meaning.
