But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.
Interpretation
Matthew 6:33 shows a priorities that is lived within study and play—see "seek" and "first". Choose priorities when pressure tempts shortcuts—brighten hope by remembering.
Context
Matthew speaks here as gospel narrative writing, highlighting priorities. Within ch. 6, a small unit frames the emphasis. Watch the terms “seek” and “first”.
Manuscripts & Textual Witnesses
Some manuscripts add 'of God' after 'kingdom' while others have just 'his kingdom.' Byzantine manuscripts (5th–15th centuries) tend to have the longer reading, while earlier Alexandrian texts (Papyrus 45, Codex Vaticanus) have the shorter. The addition likely represents a scribal clarification rather than original text. The verb tense 'shall be added' is consistent across all traditions. The Diatessaron (2nd century gospel harmony) confirms the early existence of this saying.
